The Travel soccer program represents LYSA's highest level of competition. Both players and coaches demonstrate a very high level of commitment and most teams play all year round. LYSA travel competes in the Long Island Junior Soccer league, which is currently one of the most competitive youth leagues in the country. The travel program is designed for players U9 and above who excel in the game and want to participate in more challenging games than an intramural program offers.

The benefits of this program are to challenge players to realize their highest potential through more intensive coaching and training while developing long-lasting bonds with their teammates, coaches and parents. This program offers more playing time with players of equal talent. Player development, team tactics and winning are stressed more in the travel program, with better skilled players getting the most playing time.

It is strongly recommended that athletes play at the age-appropriate level. There may be many teams in one age group but the teams are rated by skill level. Some teams may be on a U12 team in division 2 while another may be on a U12 team in division 5; the better the rating of the team the lower the division number. Parents and players in the travel program will usually have to accept more frequent practices, additional cost consideration for professional training, traveling to tournaments both in-state and out of state and more. The program is very competitive and demanding of both players and parents but it is very rewarding. It is recommended that travel players attend camps and/or additional training to further improve his or her skills. Players are strongly encouraged to practice at home to refine fundamentals. This level of commitment ensures faster paced player development.

The coaches in the travel program are the best trained and most experienced coaches in the LYSA Soccer program. They must apply to be a travel coach and they are chosen based on experience and a coaching resume. All travel coaches are required to have a "C" (NSCAA State Coaching License) within one year of becoming a travel coach. Both "B" (NSCAA Regional Coaching License) and "A" (NSCAA Advanced Regional Coaching License) are strongly recommended at the ages of U13 and U16 respectively.

Coaching selection takes place during the month of May and all applicants for consideration must be received by May 1'st. Tryouts for travel teams are normally scheduled in late June.

For additional information and to obtain contact information for our Travel Coaches please reach out to the Travel Coordinator(s)
